Feed the Birds and Meet a Chickadee

Written by: Karlee May, Digital Media Coordinator

Chickadees are ubiquitous this time of year at Hilton Falls. Chickadees have unique winter adaptations, so they live in Canada year round and don’t migrate. You can visit Halton Parks and meet one, or encourage them to drop by your house with a home made bird feeder. It’s an eco-friendly craft: good for the environment and it’s creatures!

Bird Feeders are a simple craft to make, especially with young children. All you need are pinecones, shortening, bird seed, and something to tie the pinecone to the tree. We used pipecleaners for one bird feeder, and beautiful red ribbon for the other. Some people swear by peanut butter, but shortening is also an excellent choice. It’s allergen free, too!
